NFL Bans Touchdown Celebrations

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

According to what I saw on ESPN this morning, the NFL has banned pretty much all touchdown celebrations. Sportscenter had an interview with Chad Johnson, who claims that they will not prevent “The greatest entertainer of all time” from entertaining (or something along those lines).

What does this do for the NFL? Almost everyone loves watching touchdown celebrations. They’re entertaining, they’re (for the most part) funny, and they give the NFL something to differentiate them from college football. The NFL is not a upstanding moral organization that is trying to pass down life’s little lessons to its viewers. No way! The NFL is an organization created to entertain viewers and make money. And touchdown celebrations entertain people, and they encourage more people to watch, thus making more money for the NFL through advertisements, product sales, etcetera.

[NFL Commissioner] Paul Tagliabue thinks he can now stand around pretending he is saving the world from moral injustice and poor sportsmanship, when all he’s really doing is getting rid of one of the best parts of every football game, the touchdown dance. Don’t do it, Paul, you’re only hurting the league you claim to love so much.

Priorities and War

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

The United States, as a country, does not have its priorities straight. We’re not only getting our overall priorities wrong by throwing so much money into fighting the “War on Terror,” but we’re prioritizing our fight against terror incorrectly. Allow me to quote an article I recently read:

“In a test last year, the small amounts of cesium-137, which is used in industrial gauges, triggered radiation alarms in Texas and Washington state. The material was enough to make two small “dirty bombs,” officials said, yet U.S. customs agents permitted the investigators to enter the United States because they were tricked with counterfeit documents.”

In essence, this means that the US is not ready to protect itself from allowing dirty bombs to enter the country. In other words, we’ve spent a TON of money fighting the “War on Terror” but we haven’t even secured our own borders. Is this how things should be?

The way I see it, national security should have the following priorities in the following order:

1. Protect our home soil
2. Protect areas that enemies could use to threaten our home soil
3. Protect our allies
4. Protect the innocent outside of our country

Black. White. GA by JJ.

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about a new reality show called Black. White., which apparently set a record for the highest rated debut in cable programming history with 3.98 million viewers. For those unfamiliar with the show, it involves two families, one white and one black, who agree to live together for six weeks and “trade races” (by way of make-up and prosthetics) in order to experience everyday life as a member of the other race. The purpose of the show, allegedly, is to discover the truth about racism in America.

And what did we all discover as a result of this brilliant experiment? You’ll never guess. Nothing short of the truth of course… that racism exists in America. Shocking, I know. I can hardly believe it myself.

Also, in other breaking news: water is wet, the sky is blue, and Tom Cruise is a raving lunatic. So tell me something I don’t know, and forgive me if I don’t applaud you for “uncovering” something I’ve been aware of my entire life.

Sexual Predators and the Double Standard in America

Guest Article by JJ

Last night I was watching some good ole’ Fox News programming (liberal types may insert laughter and ridicule here) and it became blatantly clear to me that one of the following is true: Bill O’Reilly has become a big “softy”, or there is a huge double standard in this country when it comes to sexual predators.

What am I talking about, you ask? Well, over the past year or so, Bill O’Reilly has been exposing some seemingly retarded judges who presided over certain child molestation/rape cases in which the perpetrators basically got off Scott-free, even though they pleaded guilty. So Bill O’Reilly, Fox News, Oprah Winfrey, and many other media outlets have been raining down hell-fire on these judges and convicted child molesters ever since; I mean absolutely killing these people, to the point that many of these judges have resigned or been run out of their respective towns. Funny thing is, all of the cases targeted by O’Reilly and the various other media outlets have shared one thing in common: the sexual predator in each case was a male.

Smokers: Step Away from the Building!

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

One thing that I have not been able to get over is the smell of tobacco. I absolutely hate it. When I am walking somewhere and have to go by someone who is smoking, I will deliberately go out of my way so I don’t have to breathe in the smoke. I know it’s a little “extreme” to do this, but I really, really do not like cigarette smoke.

It makes your breath stink. It makes your clothes stink. It makes your hair stink. It makes anything you’re carrying stink. And it makes everyone around you stink. Furthermore, it kills you. And it kills your friends. There is absolutely nothing good about tobacco.

I have friends who smoke. My boss and some of my co-workers smoke. They are really great people, I don’t want to make it look like I hate smokers. I don’t hate smokers, I hate smoke!
