Will Al Gore Run for President in 2008?
Posted in Politics by George
An article by Steve Kornacki in the New York Observer thinks so. Gore has never stated that he will not run for president in 2008, only that he does not plan to. Because he has never outright denied the possibility, rumors have been swirling. In particular, some insiders are claiming he may consider entering the race in September. This article mentions the following reasons for why Gore might run (and be successful at doing so) after all:
- He has name recognition and an established financial network
- He stood against the Iraq war from the beginning
- Oscar and Nobel Prize Nominations
- Upcoming Congressional testimony on Global Warming
- Stay out of fighting between the other democratic primary candidates by entering in September
I, personally, would be excited to see Gore run for the presidency, much due to his environmental stance. But, as we know, the election cycle is long and lots of things can change…

He has none of the qualities that we need now save his environmental hype. We need someone who is not running solely for the purpose of gaining the throne of power, but rather someone who follows party-specific ideals and principles. That’s exactly why the midterm elections went so bad for the Republicans: people voted based on who will hold power and not about ideals. This same explanation also explains why so many politicians are failing at making effective policy these days and not obtaining new terms. Democrats need to look back on presidents like Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Lincoln (who was a Republican but VERY liberal in his agenda). And the same goes for Republicans; look back to the era Reagan and Theodore Roosevelt and find your party’s real foundation and character. Your incumbency must not be a reason to run and want to be elected!

Worst idea ever, unless of course every single person in America follows a specific party’s platform exactly. Thank goodness there are some people out there who are able to think freely rather than just vote along party lines every election.

Thinking freely? Is that what you call those people who symbolize the Republican party as George W. Bush and his actions to this date. No George, those are the ignorant whose only motivation in voting is to see a shift of power and party change. I’d say that most Americans at one point did actually hold the same set of beliefs (electoral vote–Presidential election of 1984) so this isn’t such a bad proposal.
And if Al Gore is such a good candidate, where is his comprehensive economic plan?

1. I don’t really understand what you’re trying to say. You’re all over the place idea-wise. Are you advocating that people pick a party and take all of that party’s views as their own?
2. One of my favorite professors once said: “if you don’t learn to think for yourself, someone else is going to think for you.” Who can truthfully say they agree with everything that one particular party platform advocates?
3. Al Gore hasn’t made himself a candidate yet. He hasn’t created any economic plan because he hasn’t said he’s running for president. If he did create one, he’d be announcing his candidacy.
4. Calling names (ignorant) only makes you appear as such.
5. It’s faulty logic to say that if at one point Americans all held the same set of beliefs (I’d argue that’s false), they will today.

Sorry, George… looks like Mr. Gore may have responded to your post.

Now, the article is kinda vague and short, but they seem to feel that Mr. Gore has pulled himself out of any consideration.

I was not calling names, I was calling out what what many voters currently do–follow a blind prophet who promises national improvement but gives no reason how to except that they are “not” what the alternative is.
I am not advocating the wholesale adoption of a certain party’s ideals by a person. This is evident in my support of John McCain. He is not a Bush Republican; more lenient in troop deployment due to his past POW experiences and more as he calls it, a “common sense” conservative.
And it appears that your only response to me will almost always include a “this makes no sense” or it, as you so eloquently said “is all over the place.” To this I resign temporarily.

Ben is apparently one of those people who believe the world was created 5000 years ago and wants to justify his gas hog. The Republican Party trashed viable energy alternatives that would have gotten us off foreign oil by now and they are trying desperately hard to hide the facts. Regan did this nation and the world a huge disservice when he abandoned the renewable energy research program in 1981. It is very hard for people to admit they were wrong but what can you expect from a group that listens to a three time divorced drug addict for moral advice.
Suu-Veee (Like calling Hogs. )
Good article!!

Please disregard previous post. It went on wrong thread. I was supporting an EV and ended up in a political discussion.

Honestly, I really don’t understand what you’re trying to say or where you’re coming from most of the time.

George Harris is the man!

I have never read such absolute, impossibly ridiculous faux-logic, as that of whoever this “George” might be. You are an illogical fool, and it is unfortunate that others will read your idiotic trash. I, for one, will never visit this site, again, as there are those of us who believe in America. You don’t seem to believe in anything. Nothing you write makes a bit of sense, and I would suggest you quit writing, altogher, and go somewhere and pick your nose. Al Gore is a man. You are a moron, with less intelligence than my golden retriever. Have a nice day… Actually, since ignorance is Bliss, that is a given…

Sorry you didn’t like the site, Kevin. Not sure if I agree with you, but thanks for the comment. By the way, if you’re going to go about insulting someone else’s intelligence, it helps to work on your spelling and use of commas.
Cheers,
George
