A Better Blood Drive?
Posted in Econ, Health by George
The American Red Cross needs to do two things to attract more people to give blood.
First, give money instead of coupons/shwag/etcetera. Everyone loves money. Not everyone loves specific goods.
Secondly, and most importantly, market giving blood as a weight loss tool. Apparently you burn something like 2,000 calories on average by giving blood. For a lot of people, that is a day’s worth of food. Since Americans will do all sorts of crazy things except eating right and exercising to lose weight, such as the cabbage soup diet, you’d think they would also try giving blood every now and then. I think 2,000 calories is close to one pound of fat (I think one pound is 2,500). So the American Red Cross should be saying: “Donate Blood - Lose a Pound!”

Maybe you should go into marketing….I smiled at your weight loss promotion.
I believe a pound of fat is 3500 calories.

Ha, glad to know you liked it. And yes, you’re right about the pound of fat. Whoops on my part.

Where did you read this nonsense? I have heard that Donating blood burns like 600 calories but 2000?!?!?!? I’ll donate every month if thats the case! haha.
Heres a marketing focus for you:
Your Mom’s hit by a drunk drive on her way home from work… She could have pulled through with a blood transfusion. To bad your sitting on your ass instead of donating.
Donating Blood can save up to 3 lives. Why is this not enough.
Someday you or someone you love might be one of the people my blood saves, That is enough to motivate me to donate every 56 days.
But on a happier note and back to the donate to lose idea… Could you imagine what the posters advertising that slogan would look like?!? HAHAHA
Imagine Kristy Ally up there saying ” Donate blood and you can have your cake and eat it too!” hahahaha
